Every time I head to a new country that speaks in a different tongue than me, I get so fired up to learn their language, though it never goes beyond the usual “hello”, “thank you”, “goodbye” and “where is the washroom”. It’s a good start but it’s definitely not enough to really understand their culture and hear their stories. However, learning a new language is a daunting task and it could take years before you fully master it. Going for classes is also time-consuming and can be expensive depending on how much you want to advance. True story: I actually signed up for online Korean lessons in an attempt to self-teach with all the materials provided and right now, I can order food in Korea with ease. That’s the best I can do and I started 4 years ago. So I will tell you this, without discipline, you will fail, and fail horribly at that. I’m still working on it.
Luckily for us, the good folks at UpgradedPoints have put together an incredibly useful infographic on learning languages a bit faster than usual with nifty tips and tricks covering:
- how you can learn all of the necessary basics
- how to enhance your grammar skills in your chosen language and
- how to further your learning once you’ve done this
Boy, am I gonna re-start my journey on learning the Korean language with these tips!
