Born and raised in California, Indian-American rapper, singer and songwriter Raja Kumari has a number of creative accolades under her belt.
Kumari has co-wrote, featured or performed background vocals for songs by Fall Out Boy, Gwen Stefani and Iggy Azalea’s Grammy-nominated album The New Classic. She was also involved in Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix original series on the birth of Hip Hop –The Get Down.
In a Vh1 India and Singapore Tourism Board collaboration, the music video ‘Unstoppable’ was born. Kumari wrote and performed the song, co-produced by the Chemical Brothers of India – Midival Punditz.
As a tourism video, naturally Singapore’s key backdrops like Gardens By the Bay and key districts like Chinatown and Kampong Glam were featured. Singaporean B-Boy crew Radikal Forze features extensively through the video too.
A surprise element lies in the sampling of unique Singapore sounds of daily life into the track, such as the ‘doors are closing’ message at the local MRT train stations.
Another fun cultural element added to the MV was the appearance of Tan Wei Tian, the youngest Chinese opera singer from Singapore. Who knew?
Kumari on producing the track and MV:
“It’s so rewarding when music travels across countries and cultures. Experiencing Singapore and collaborating with the Midival Punditz and Radikal Forze was an eye opening and grand experience. We tried to capture the colors and sounds of the city with this track. I hope you enjoy Unstoppable as much as we enjoyed making it.”
